San Francisco's New 230kV Embarcadero - Potrero Transmission Line.

Abstract:

PG&E is planning for the future. The new 230kV electric transmission line will serve as an additional source of energy for San Francisco customers and help prevent extended power outages in the City following a catastrophic earthquake. The project scope consists of installing a new 3.5 mile 230kV electric transmission line, of which 2.5 miles is installed up to ten feet below the seafloor of the San Francisco Bay, and the remaining 1 mile underground within city streets. To connect the new power line to San Francisco’s electric system, PG&E will build two new substations next to the existing Embarcadero and Potrero substations. Both new substations will be safely enclosed and provide an aesthetically pleasing environment for the community.

Speaker Bio:

Alain Billot is a senior project manager with PG&E’s Electric Transmission Division. Over the last 25 years, Alain has successfully managed over half a billion dollars of major transmission addition and upgrade projects in San Francisco, Oakland and the Peninsula, as well as the power requirements for the San Francisco Airport Expansion and the BART to SFO Extension.
